Why choose Notably vs. Dovetail for research teams?

Like Notably, Dovetail uses AI to speed up analysis. Dovetail’s AI features are powered by tailored AI infrastructure on top of Amazon Web Services (AWS) whereas Notably integrates directly with OpenAI’s API. This integration with a (Large Language Model) LLM vs. building it in-house means our AI has been trained on a massive dataset, so they perform more advanced tasks and create more accurate and creative results.

Additionally, this means there is added security, support, and funding behind this technology that is going to rapidly improve faster than we ever could with a small in-house AI team.

Dovetail uses AI to summarize lengthy conversations and documents into short summaries. Notably also uses AI to summarize videos, documents but you can choose the context of the conversation to analyze that data in a specific way. For example, summarize a video as a “Stakeholder interview” and you get a very accurate and specific summarization.

Dovetail uses AI to automatically theme highlights. Notably does not automatically theme data on the canvas with AI, yet. We are approaching data classification with caution, but are actively experimenting with it and it is on our roadmap.

Dovetail does not have the ability to generate insights with AI.

In Notably, you can generate an insight from a theme or tag(s) with AI using one of our AI Insight Templates. Like the AI Summary Templates, these insight templates provide a special lens for the AI to analyze the data through. For example, you can use AI to generate a “Jobs-to-be-done” insight from your data. From that same data you can use AI to generate a “Persona Insight.”
